[or Utterly
for the Enemy of Sound]
a poem by
Zachàr Laskewicz
Dreadfully,
Violently,
Painfully
Soft;
Your noise
Is a true
Cabaret…
Please don’t make me
Be near you ;
I never want
To hear you -
I make music to
Drive you away.
Fiendishly
Fearsomely
Fearfully
Vile;
You must live
In a place
Deep and infernal…
You have but one goal,
That’s to covet my soul and
To keep it for all time eternal.
Enormously
Tiny, yet
Titanically
Small;
How can you be
Both dense
And sparse?
Although I can’t
See you,
I know I can’t
Flee you –
You seem slight
Yet impossibly
Vast.
Constantly,
Icily,
Frigid and
Cold;
Still it burns
When I feel
Your hot glare…
Yet to stay
Fair and efficient,
To me
You’re indifferent –
Thus I know it’s
Straight through me
You stare.
Spectrally
Floating
Like some
Ghostly shade;
You’re absent,
Yet always
Around…
Through fear
And its pain
Screams I make
Are in vain –
Because you vanish
If I dare
Make a sound.
Seamlessly,
Soundlessly -
Buffed to a Sheen;
You tempt me
With things
Safe and pure…
But I will
Never Proffer
On those things
You offer –
For my sickness
What you have’s
No cure.
Brinily,
Slimily
Embryonic and
Chthonic;
You’re both
Anal but also
Vaginal…
With tentacles
Reaching,
It’s my soul
You are leeching –
From a hole
In my back
Deep and spinal.
Distantly,
Closely,
So vague and
Acute;
You’re so far
And yet
Far too near…
I cannot
Face you,
Touch, smell or
Embrace you –
So how can you
Be both
There and Here?
Impatiently,
Anxiously,
Severe and
So stern;
Your desire
Tells me
That you exist…
Feeling you
Waiting
My fear’s
Not abating -
When then
Will this torture
Desist?
Oppressively
Fetidly
Stinking of
Fear;
You were there
In the cleft
Of my genesis…
From that place
Dark and wet,
You have not
Caught me yet
And ‘til you do,
you’ll remain
My true nemesis.
Apprehensively
Waiting
For what
You are great in -
Is this
My last
Curtain call ?
Like a sharp
Guillotine,
You’re a
Slicing machine –
And one day
Silence
You will
Utterly
Fall.
Dedicated to my nemesis
:
SILENCE
“Silence
is not my friend; he’s my enemy. I fill my environment with sound to keep
him away. I despise him so because I know that when he finally appears at my
doorstep, I sure won’t be hearing anything else but the deafening sound
of his absence.”
