THE SLAGGY TRAMP GIF SET is finally here!
...I mean, it's just what you always wanted. The GIFS, in any case, are finished, and they're being at this moment uploaded to the major GIF platforms...
...although in truth it'll take awhile. There's almost nothing more boring on the internet than uploading individual GIFs and inserting the tags the anyone will need to recall them.
And there are after all 93 GIFs in this GIF Set! That's a whole lot of GIFs.
It actually belongs to the series of GIFs that I refer to in general as the ETERNITY TAKES FOREVER GIFs: that due to a trick of illusion appear to show something disappearing forever into or out of itself; be it a planet into an eye into a cosmos, or a dancing slutty tramp dancing forever backwards into eternity.
There are actually four of five versions of the same GIF in every series; I ennded up with three favourite GIFs that I couldn't decided between, and two colours for the title, one for the colour screen and one for the black and white, and after I'd applied them to the individual films the initiail intention was to discard most of them.
This was harder to do than I thought. The three little films head gradually back into the past. The first one is simply a black and white rendition of the little film I made, the colours of each frame enhanced with a colorspace transformation in ImageMagick. The remarkable piece of software which performs batch function on sets of images with this command hacks the lowest and highest percentage off the contrast and then stretches the whole out , making the image way more striking to look at and way similar to black and white films. This is what most people miss when they attempt to make a film look ACTUALLY black and white. In other words, reducing the saturation to zero is just not enough.
The second film, however, is even more strange looking than the first: the individual frames first underwent processes of simplification awhere the colours were posterized and the lines simplified, and after this they were returned into a film and then aged lighting, flickering , scratches were added.
The final film is the most strange. It is black and white but with cartoonization added to each of the frames, but with vignetting and some other factors like the colorspace contrast stretching mentioned above in addition to other film effects. It looks the most ancient of the three.
The final stage involved combining an image with each of the 95 little films using FFMPEG coding, software commonly used by software developers and filmmakers to perform batching tasks with film files.
The image that was attached contained the titles you can read below splayed across the screen in vibrant colours with a white frame that surrounds the outer edges of the films. Positioned on the frame is an anachronous flower casting a shadow across the bleakly white frame which makes which deliberately estranges the illusion of the white frame.
They turned out better than I could have imagined, defying logica and all the other norms I adore trampling over ... I mean ... like perspective and temporality and class and good taste, of course!
What else would you expect of a Slaggy Tramp?!
This GIF is a wry comment on expectations; but despite it's humour it is also a bit sad; like all camp, it has at is core two of the desperate truths of fallen starlets: failure and tragedy.
